Tips for choosing a name that works
- One or two syllables are easiest for dogs to recognize — longer names shorten naturally ("Bartholomew" becomes "Bart" within a week).
- Avoid names that sound like commands: "Kit" vs. "sit", "Bo" vs. "no".
- Test it out loud at the dog park volume. If you'd be embarrassed shouting it, keep generating.
- For multi-pet homes, pick names with distinct sounds so nobody answers to everything.
