Simple Chicken & Liver Pâté Topper for Cats
A whole-prey-inspired chicken and liver pâté that makes any meal irresistible — perfect for picky adult cats at a healthy weight.
⏱ 25 minutes · Makes About 1.5 cups (12 topper servings)
Ingredients
- 1/2 lb chicken thigh, boneless
- 2 oz chicken liver (about 2 livers)
- 1/4 cup unsalted chicken broth or cooking water
- 1 tsp fish oil
Cats are obligate carnivores with a famously stubborn palate. This pâté leans into both facts: gently poached chicken with a small ration of liver (nature’s multivitamin — in moderation) blended silky enough to top kibble or hide a pill.
Instructions
- Poach the chicken thigh and liver in unsalted water until fully cooked, about 12 minutes.
- Blend with broth until smooth and spoonable, adding liquid as needed.
- Stir in the fish oil after blending. Cool before serving.
How to serve
One to two tablespoons as a meal topper (about 25–35 kcal) — reduce the main meal slightly to compensate. Refrigerate up to 3 days or freeze in ice-cube trays for single portions.
Important: Keep liver to roughly 5% of total food volume — too much causes vitamin A toxicity over time. This topper complements, not replaces, a complete feline diet. Never season, and never use onion or garlic.
