Simple Chicken & Liver Pâté Topper for Cats

A whole-prey-inspired chicken and liver pâté that makes any meal irresistible — perfect for picky adult cats at a healthy weight.

⏱ 25 minutes · Makes About 1.5 cups (12 topper servings)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb chicken thigh, boneless
  • 2 oz chicken liver (about 2 livers)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted chicken broth or cooking water
  • 1 tsp fish oil

Cats are obligate carnivores with a famously stubborn palate. This pâté leans into both facts: gently poached chicken with a small ration of liver (nature’s multivitamin — in moderation) blended silky enough to top kibble or hide a pill.

Instructions

  1. Poach the chicken thigh and liver in unsalted water until fully cooked, about 12 minutes.
  2. Blend with broth until smooth and spoonable, adding liquid as needed.
  3. Stir in the fish oil after blending. Cool before serving.

How to serve

One to two tablespoons as a meal topper (about 25–35 kcal) — reduce the main meal slightly to compensate. Refrigerate up to 3 days or freeze in ice-cube trays for single portions.

Important: Keep liver to roughly 5% of total food volume — too much causes vitamin A toxicity over time. This topper complements, not replaces, a complete feline diet. Never season, and never use onion or garlic.
