Salmon & Pumpkin Bites for Indoor Cats (Weight-Friendly)
Low-calorie baked salmon treats with pumpkin fiber — a smarter reward for indoor cats on a diet, portioned at under 3 kcal per bite.
⏱ 30 minutes · Makes About 60 small bites
Ingredients
- 1 can (5 oz) salmon in water, drained (or cooked fresh salmon)
- 1/4 cup plain canned pumpkin
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup oat flour
Indoor cats gain weight treat by treat — commercial crunchy treats often pack 2–6 kcal each, and nobody stops at one. These salmon bites bake up at under 3 kcal apiece with fiber from pumpkin, so a dieting cat still gets rewarded without blowing the daily budget.
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment.
- Mash the salmon thoroughly, then mix in pumpkin, egg, and oat flour to form a thick dough.
- Spread 1/4-inch thick on the sheet and score into small squares (or pipe pea-sized dots).
- Bake 12–15 minutes until firm. Cool, then break apart.
How to serve
Up to 5–8 bites a day for a dieting cat, counted inside the 10% treat-calorie rule. Refrigerate up to 5 days or freeze.
Important: Weight loss in cats must be slow — rapid dieting risks hepatic lipidosis, a life-threatening liver condition. Target 1–2% of body weight per week with your vet, and check where your cat stands with our health scanner.
